Sustainable Food Systems

Strong social outcomes enhanced by a community’s environmental, economic and healthy wellbeing is a major focus of My Pathway’s Community Development Programs.

The Sustainable Food Systems model considers people, planet and profit equally.

Teamed with a circular economy approach, which takes a Reduce-Reuse-Recycle view to sustainable infrastructure, My Pathway’s Sustainable Food Systems model is tailored to community needs and local environmental conditions to improve land quality and water conservation through holistic, integrated Permaculture and Aquaculture food production systems.

The focus is on analysis of Water Systems, Land Contamination, Waste Management and Energy Production creating an efficiency approach with an aim to eventually achieve 100% sustainable agriculture across all infrastructure with benefits to broader community.

Sustainable Food Systems are:

  • resilient to change (including climate risk),

  • accessible and affordable to all community

  • energy efficient

  • an economic boost for the region

  • organic and healthy

  • beneficial to local ecosystems and biodiversity

  • water efficient

  • compatible to local needs and cultures

  • beneficial to soil health

  • supports urban and commercial production

  • a foundation for economic growth

  • inclusive and educational

My Pathway works in partnership with the Centre for Appropriate Technology, and other local partners, in design, management and community training to build successful Sustainable Food Systems in the remote regions of Central Australia, Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait Islands.
